Noto Cathedral, Val di Noto, Sicily, Italy - stock photo
In 1693 the town of Noto was destroyed by a huge earthquake and completely rebuilt in Sicilian Baroque style, for which it is famous now. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Nicholas. The dome of the cathedral collapsed unexpectedly in 1996. The Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto were collectively added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2002.
