Intelligent and vivacious she appeared in some outstanding film musicals, among them 'The Wizard of Oz' 1939, 'Meet Me in St Louis' 1944, and 'Easter Parade' 1948. The emotional power of her voice was evident from her live stage performances, and her outstanding dramatic ability is shown in the film 'A Star is Born' 1954. Despite emotional, medical and financial difficulties and a reputation for unreliability, she achieved the status of a legendary performer and actress, inspiring a huge amount of love in her audiences throughout the world.
