Traveller Community Protests At Police Handling Of Children's Christmas Visit To Manchester
MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - DECEMBER 6: Children lead the protest as members of the Gypsy, Roma & Traveller community march from St Peter's square to the Arndale Centre on December 6, 2024 in Manchester, England. Members of the Gypsy and Traveller communities are protesting after their children were said to have been forced onto trains by Manchester police after reports of antisocial behaviour at Christmas markets in the city centre in late November. Children as young as 13, with no idea where they were being sent, ended up 100 miles away in Grimsby. Yvonne MacNamara, CEO of the Traveller Movement charity says "Clearly, there has to be accountability here, why were these children racially profiled, why on earth did this happen?" The charity has been in talks with lawyers and said it was considering taking legal action over the incident as they believe the police had racially profiled the children.
