XIX Award Ceremony For The International Day For The Elimination of Violence Against Women
MADRID, SPAIN - NOVEMBER 25: The Minister for Equality, Irene Montero during the awards ceremony on the occasion of November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. The awards are given to people, projects and institutions that have been recognized this year 2022 for their work in different areas in the fight against gender violence. This is one of the events taking place today in Spain to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, declared by the United Nations General Assembly to raise awareness of the problem. The day 25 was chosen in 1999 by the UN to commemorate the assassination in the Dominican Republic in 1960 of the Mirabal sisters, political activists who opposed the dictatorship of the then dictator of that country, Rafael Leonidas Trujillo.
