Escondido Police Update on the Murder of Elizabeth Perez

On June 13, 2016 at approximately 1:10p.m. Escondido Police and Fire personnel discovered the body of Elizabeth Perez after responding to a report of an unresponsive female in a vehicle parked on the side of the northbound entrance to I-15 at El Norte Parkway in Escondido, Ca. Escondido Fire personnel determined that she was deceased and had a head injury. She was seated in the driver seat of the vehicle of a Mercury Sable and both side front widows were shattered. Upon further investigation her death was ruled a homicide and that she had been shot to death. The victim's boyfriend Edward Andrew Long 38 became a person of interest after further investigation. Escondido Police armed with a search warrant seized several items at his residence in San Marcos. On June 21, 2016 a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer made a routine traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by Edward Long. Information from a Escondido crime bulletin issued to law enforcement databases matched Edward Long and he was placed under arrest at that time on murder charges in connection with the death of Elizabeth Perez. He is currently in jail in Las Vegas and has waived extradition and currently awaiting return to San Diego County to face charges. Through the critical efforts and coordination of the Escondido Police Department, San Diego County District Attorney's Office, California Highway Patrol, and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department a dangerous suspect has been arrested in the murder of Elizabeth Perez. No further information is available at this time. A photo of the suspect Edward Andrew Long is attached.
