Maggi Noodles From Nestle 'Hazardous' - India Regulator
In the latest blow to Nestle regarding the Maggi Noodles controversy in India, the Delhi government banned the popular Maggi Noodles for 14 days after alleged lapses of food safety standards, pending inquiry on Wednesday. Indian Army has also issued an advisory to its personnel, asking them not to eat Maggi noodles. As of Thursday more than 5 state governments have issued a ban, while others are conducting random sample tests. The centre is also taking action after the U.P. state government found levels of lead nearly seven times the permissible limits.
Since the last week, Nestle shares are down nearly 15 per cent. The selloff has wiped out nearly Rs 10,000 crore from Nestle's market capitalisation. Prior to the ban Nestle's Maggi was one of the most popular cheap fast food available throughout India and a market leader.
