Heat mirage on a road - 4K stock video
Mirage on a hot road. The mirage is an optical phenomenon caused by the refraction of light. This is an inferior mirage, formed when the air just above the surface is very much hotter than that above it. Hot air is less dense than cold air, and light rays hitting the boundary are refracted upwards, away from the ground and towards the viewer. The mirage appears as shimmering water, but is actually a distorted image of the sky. Filmed in Texas, USA.
