The primary currency used in Panama is the U.S. dollar but goods are very cheap because of the fact that panama lies in a free trade zone. Most Panamanians speak fluent English but Spanish is the official language. PanamaThe best type of holiday for someone who wants a taste of Panama is to split the time between the resort and a modern 5 star hotel in Panama city. This way one can explore both panama city --which has many rainforests (parks) monuments, churches, shopping malls and of course the Panama Canal. Resort - few resorts in the area- one is the Royal DeCameron, Costa Blanca in the province of Farallon. About a 2 hours ride from the airport. A picturesque resort where one can enjoy splendid sunrises and sunsets. This resort has great service and very friendly staff. This is a great resort for both couples as well as parents travelling with children and there were many South Americans families with children. The resorts in Panama are situated right next to where the locals live. Fishing is a major source of income for the locals who live in the little towns and villages along the coast . One can watch local fisherman bringing in the day's catch during an early morning walk along the beachfront just outside the resort boundaries. It is quite safe to go outside the resort area and many of the guests take a local buses that stops just outside the resort gates to visit nearby towns.
