Chappaquiddick Ferry Crossing 1979
The ferry crossing the water at Chappaquiddick Island, part of the town of Edgartown, Massachusetts, off the eastern end of Martha's Vineyard. It is the scene of the 1969 tragedy in which 28 year old Mary Jo Kopechne, a secretary and worker for Edward Kennedy''s election campaign, was killed after the car in which she was a passenger was driven off a narrow bridge by the Senator. Mary Jo drowned after being trapped inside the vehicle which had overturned in a tidal pond. Kopechne's body and the car were not reported until the next morning, approximately nine to ten hours later. 25th November 1979 (Photo by Ira Berger/Mirrorpix via Getty Images)
