State Funeral Held For Murdered Police Officer

ROSKILDE, DENMARK - DECEMBER 16: The coffin of the murdered Danish police officer, Jesper Jul, leaves Roskilde Cathedral where he received a state funeral on December 16, 2016 in Roskilde, Denmark. The Prime Minister, Speaker of the House and some 1000 coworkers and family members participated in the funeral. The policeman who was a dog handler was shot at point blank December 06, 2016, when he was loading his patrol car at the Police Yard in Albertslund, a suburb to Copenhagen. A man approached him from behind and shot the policeman in his head with a caliber 22 pistol. Jesper Jul died the next day at the Government Hospital at 14.00 hours due to his injuries. The alleged perpetrator was arrested half an hour after the shooting and the police described him in a press release as ".. a mad man" who hated the police and Jesper Jul as a coincidental victim for his rage. The seemingly meaningless killing has caught great attention in Denmark. The 43 year-old policeman is survived by his fiancée and 2 small children. The coffin was carried by his coworkers.
