Souleymane Traore, known as Neba Solo, puts together a balafon at his workshop in Sikasso on March 5, 2025. On December 2024 the balafon, also known as balani, was included in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The balafon is deeply rooted in the musical traditions of the Senoufo, Malinke, Bwa, and Minianka communities and for musicians like Souleymane Traore this recognition brings this Malian instrument to its former glory.
