Dragon boat regatta in Argentina
BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA - FEBRUARY 04: Rowers compete as part of the 5th Dragon Boat regatta organized to celebrate the arrival of the Chinese New Year in Buenos Aires, Argentina on February 04, 2024. It coincides with the 5th anniversary celebrations of the Dragon Boat Association Argentina (AABD) and the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Argentine Republic. The competition is also part of the schedule of activities for the Chinese New Year, the year of the Wooden Dragon, whose arrival is celebrated around the world on February 10. 'Dragon boats' is a type of canoeing of Chinese origin with competitions of 200, 500 and 2,000 meters that is widespread throughout Asia, North America, Oceania and, increasingly, in Europe, Africa and South America. Dragon boat competition is a fairly new sport in Argentina but it is already present in 20 cities and more than 5 thousand people practice it in the country according to the president of the Argentine Dragon Boat Association, Jigang Liu.
