Ex-Guantanamo Bay Detainees
KABUL, AFGHANISTAN - JANUARY 31, 2009: Padshah, 38, formally known as Sayed Amir, from Jalalabad was in Guantanamo Bay prison for 5 years, and is pictured here on January 31, 2009 in Kabul, Afghanistan. According to his testimony, he states that it was assumed that he was Taliban, even though he was a commander in the Afghan National Army (ANA). He was handcuffed and taken away for questioning in the night, tortured, and then never returned. During the Taliban time, he was with the Northern Alliance but still he was arrested. "The behaviour of the Americans was terrible, they never respected our religion, never allowed us to act like Muslims. They told us it was their rule of law, and wouldn't allow us to pray. They beat me with their weapons on my head and it was bleeding for a week. There were also people who were beaten, and at least 2 or 3 that died. I saw that when I was in Bagram, before I was taken to Guantanamo. (Photo Paula Bronstein/Getty Images)
