Muslim model Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno who was sentanced to caning for drinking beer enters a van escorted by a religious officer at her father's home in Karai, north of Kuala Lumpur on August 24, 2009. Kartika, who was ordered to be caned for drinking beer, was taken into custody and abruptly released by Malaysian religious authorities on August 24, throwing her case into confusion. She was meant to be transported to a jail outside Kuala Lumpur where the sentence is to be carried out, but after moving a short distance the vehicle halted for an hour and then turned around and returned to her parent's house where she has been detained.
