(Original Caption) Lee Lanois,test engineer,listens to the revolving rotor of a 125,000-kilowatt generator in the turbine factory of General Electric Company at Schenectady,NY.Using the engineer's version of a doctor's stehoscope,he can detect any rubbing or abnormal sound as the rotor is brought up to a speed of 3600 revolutions per minute during test operations.The engineer's stethoscope is a solid steel rod.One end is placed on a part in contact with the revolving field,the other end is placed against the bone behind the engineer.
