In January 1871, Victoria Claflin Woodhull, 1838 - 1927, a delegate of the American suffrage movement presenting her argument for women’s voting rights on the basis of the 14th and 15th constitutional amendments to a judiciary committee of the House of Representatives. Both amendments were written to enforce the rights of citizens. The passing of the 19th amendment in 1920 specifically gave women the right to vote.
