(Original Caption) George F. Kennan was named by President Kennedy, February 8, 1961, to serve as ambassador to Yugoslavia. Kennan, former envoy to the Soviet Union and an expert on relations with the communist bloc, has been serving informally as an adviser to President Kennedy and Secretary of State Dean Rusk on relations with Soviet Russia.
