Gede Vodou ceremony, Queens, NY, 18 November 2012 - Cathy Diogene, a mambo or priestess in the Vodou religion perfoms a ceremony in honor of the Gede spirits. Slaves from central and western Africa, imported to Haiti by French colonial settlers were forbidden to practice their religions, many precticed underground, giving their spirits a Catholic personification, which lead to a sinchronism with Catholisism.
