Cameron Crossing the Lulindi', Congo, 1870s (late 19th century). Sent to Africa in 1873 to assist David Livingstone, Verney Lovett Cameron (1844-1894) encountered Livingstone's servants carrying the explorer's dead body. He arranged for Livingstone's papers to be sent back to England and then continued his journey westward.
