Edwards And Summers
25th July 1948: Aircraft designer and industrialist Sir George Edwards (1908 - 2003) with test pilot Jeff 'Mutt' Summers. Behind them is a Vickers Viking aircraft converted as a flying test bed for Rolls Royce Nene turbojet engines. The airliner is about to leave for Paris on the 39th anniversary of Louis Bleriot's cross-channel flight. Two Vikings were converted in this way, becoming the world's first commercial jet aircraft.
