Torrance, California, USA - August 23, 2013: While beach-goers and surfers continue their activities, the Torrance Beach Fire Department and County of Los Angeles Ocean Lifeguard emergency services respond to a swimming-surfing accident. This beach is not known for large surf, but an occasional larger wave arrives onshore. This person was caught offguard and sent head first into the bottom striking it awkwardly during one such wave. The injury was not deemed serious or life-threatening, but the victim's head and neck were immobilized as a precaution before being loaded into a waiting ambulence so that further evaluation could be attained at the hospital.
