Kleinfontein is a gated Afrikaner community of about 1,500 descendants of the first European settlers, and about twenty-minute drive away east of South Africa's capital Pretoria. They represent only a tiny fraction of the Afrikaners, who can be estimated at around 2.6 million of South Africa's 62 million inhabitants in 2022, based on census data from that year. Members of the enclave are battling through legal letters with the Pretoria metropolitan authority, Tshwane, which accuses it of not respecting zoning regulations.
