A man tries to cut off the head of a dea

A man tries to cut off the head of a dead goose with a blunt sabre during the "Gansabhauet" (Cut off the goose) event, an ancient custom that takes place every year on the St. Martin day, on November 11, 2008, in Sursee, central Switzerland. People of any age, armed with a rough sabre, try to sever the neck of a dead goose dangling from a rope. Participants are blindfolded under a mask depicting an enormous sun and are dressed in red coats. Since they are only allowed one strike, it is usually a long time before the goose finally falls down. AFP PHOTO/ FABRICE COFFRINI (Photo credit should read FABRICE COFFRINI/AFP via Getty Images)
