A man arranges bags of sugar at the South Nyanza Sugar
MIGORI, KENYA - 2024/06/12: A man arranges bags of sugar at the South Nyanza Sugar Company Limited (SonySugar) factory warehouse in Migori County. South Nyanza Sugar Company Limited (SonySugar), a state Corporation established in 1979 has an installed capacity to crush 2500 tonnes of cane per day (TCD), serving over 25,000 cane farmers across the region and supplementing with its own cane. Kenya's total sugar consumption demand is estimated at 1.1 million metric tonnes annually. With domestic production being below 500,000 metric tonnes, Kenya relies on imports from the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) region and beyond to bridge the deficit.
