Indian salt pan worker Sanjuben Melabhai works at a salt pan in Khadaghoda Sector in the Little Rann of Kutch, some 160 kms from Ahmedabad on February 7, 2010. In India's salt-producing heartland, thousands of families including children as young as 10 toil in the desert using a harvesting technique that is unchanged in centuries. In Little Rann of Kutch, a barren brownish desert and local centre of in-land salt production, an estimated 200,000 people work barefoot in extreme hardship, exposed to a relentless sun and a host of occupational dangers.
