A Bank of England Museum employee holds an original draught sketch of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, whose final drawing was used on the GBP 1 bank note issued on March 1960, during a photo call for an exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the portrait of the Queen first appearing on banknotes at the Bank of England Museum, in central London, on March 16, 2010. On 17 March 1960, the Bank of England issued a new £1 banknote and it was the first to carry the Queen's portrait. Fifty years and five portraits later, the Bank of England Museum will open A Decoration and a Safeguard - The Portrait of the Monarch on Bank of England Notes.
