John Bickley - Nottinghamshire Cricketer
Nottinghamshire bowler John Bickley, circa 1853. Bickley also played for the All England team between 1849 and 1858, his most notable feat being at Lord's on July 9th 1856, playing for England against Kent, when he took 8 wickets for 7 runs on a pitch badly damaged by rain with all but one of his victims being clean bowled. When not playing cricket John Bickley earned his living as silk glove maker, but later in life he became a genial innkeeper in Nottingham where he ended his days.
