Small Fishing Island In Fukuoka Is The Cat’s Meow For Ferried Tourists

Video footage taken on November 3,2017,Japan, on Ainoshima, a small island in Fukuoka Prefecture, shows a number of felines soaking up sunlight and the attention from tourists that have come to visit them by ferry. Ainoshima, home to about 270 human residents and almost 200 cats, became an international tourist destination after a 2013 CNN story included it among a list of the world’s top five cat-spotting sites. Fishing is the island’s main industry, and the cats feast on fish remains and in return protect the islanders’ grain stores from rodents.
