Blooming Buckwheat Surrounds Sounds and Colors of Historic Ritual Dance in Hokkaido
Video footage taken in the town of Fukushima in Hokkaido shows costumed musicians and dancers offering a ritual dance in the middle of a blooming “soba” buckwheat field on Aug. 26. The Matsumae Kagura dance is said to have a history of about 350 years and is designated as an important intangible folk cultural property. The video footage was taken by Nobuhiro Shirai of The Asahi Shimbun.
