Second day of the ANC Western Cape Land Summit in Cape Town, South Africa

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape, held a 2 day land summit in the town of Stellenbosch. The ANC has held land summits throughout the country to discuss the implications of amending Section 25 of the constitution of South Africa, also known as the Property Clause. The ANC under President Cyril Ramaphosa, earlier this year referred the issue of land expropriation without compensation to a constitutional review committee in Parliament. The ruling ANC adopted land expropriation without compensation as a policy at it's 54th national conference in December 2017. The second day of the Land Summit was opened by Ebrahim Rasool, a former Premier of the Western Cape and former ANC Provincial Chairman. The debate was moderated by Dr Leon Pretorius, of the University of the Western Cape's (UWC) School of Governance. The keynote address was by Professor Ruth Hall, of UWC's Institute for Poverty Land and Agrarian Studies, also known as PLAAS. Baleka Mbete, the current ANC Chairperson and also Speaker of Parliament also attended the summit. (Footage by Gallo Images/Wesley Fester)
