MOTION GRAPHICS - US awaits rare total solar eclipse

US - APRIL 7: A rare total solar eclipse will be observed across Mexico, the United States and Canada on Monday (April 8). During the early afternoon hours, a path of totality will sweep across southeast Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas from southwest to northeast. Total solar eclipses happen when the Moon moves between the Sun and Earth, creating a shadow on the Earth's surface. On average, total solar eclipses occur somewhere on Earth every 18 months. However, due to the Moon's relatively small diameter compared to Earth (roughly the width of Australia), it casts a limited shadow. As a result, any specific location on Earth is estimated to experience a total solar eclipse only once every 360 to 410 years on average. (Footage by Ferhan Kanca /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
