Nick Clegg interview continues SOT - I am both a revolutionary in terms of political reform but also a pragmatist, you have to be pragmatic about what is possible, and the reality was, of the three main parties, only the Liberal Democrats were proposing a proportional system, the Labour party was proposing alternative vote system and in the coalition agreement we have agreed to proceed with a referendum on alternative vote / in the context of other things, it's a big, big change / I don't agree with the assumption that people will vote on this because they are told to by one politician or another / David Cameron has been very open about it, he and I disagree on this point / David Cameron will argue for what he believes, that there shouldn't be a change in the system, I will argue, as will people across all parties and beyond politics for a change in the system / people in Westminster get terribly excited about the idea that the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister might not see eye to eye on this but I actually think most people are warming to the idea that whilst we've come together to govern in partnership together, in the national interest, of course there are issues where we do not agree, we'll be quite open and relaxed about it / I have always been very open about my own liberalism and my liberalism believes that for far too long we've had governments telling people what to do, snatching away civil liberties, we've inherited an almighty mess from the Labour government, look at the announcement today we've had to make putting on hold or cancelling some projects to rebuild schools, not an easy thing to do, the dishonesty of Labour was that they had already announced a fifty per cent cut in the capital investment programme / there is nothing ideological about the budget we've had to announce, we have to do it / if we don't do it, people should be aware of what would happen, interest rates would go up, the surest way to lead to a double dip recession, you'd...
