STORY: The Northern Ireland Troubles was a violent sectarian conflict, that lasted for thirty years from 1968 to 1998. It was between the mainly Protestant unionists (loyalists) who desired the province to remain part of the UK and the mainly Catholic nationalists (republicans) seeking a united Ireland.
