Flag of Germany blows proudly in the wind, on the Reichstag in Berlin. - stock video

Detail of one of the four corner facade elements on The Reichstag in Berlin. The original building was built between 1884 and 1894 by the architect Paul Wallot. The main façade (the Western one) was inspired by the Italian Renaissance style with few Baroque elements. It was severely damaged after being set on fire in 1933, shortly after Adolf Hitler came to power. After World War II, the building fell into disuse. In 1991, the German Bundestag decided to move the Parliament and the Government from Bonn to Berlin. British architect, Norman Foster was hired and he managed to preserve the historic shell of the building while creating the interior space for a modern outward-looking Parliament. The building's overall them is now transparency.
