Tet pole or the Vietnamese lunar new year tree symbolizing the arrival of spring - stock photo
A tall bamboo stalk high up night sky decorated with various ornaments stands in front of a Buddhist temple in Central Vietnam. Topped with red ribbons, glowing string lights, red lanterns, Buddhist flag and couplet banners, this Tet pole, or "Cây Nêu" in Vietnamese, is erected in the front yard on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month and dismantled on the 7th day of the 1st lunar month. It serves to ward off evil spirits and invite good fortune into the home during Tết Nguyên Đán, or Vietnamese New Year.
