Seborrhoeic Keratosis - stock photo

A type of noncancerous skin growth sometimes known as a 'senile wart' because they are usually found in the over-40s. They are not true warts as they are not caused by the human papilloma virus but are actually over-growth of basal cells in the skin and are not infectious. In seborrhoeic keratosis, the abnormally growing basal cells produce abnormal amounts of keratin. This is what gives the crusty layer on top of the seborrhoeic keratosis.
