Lituya Bay 14 Years After Tsunami - stock photo
On July 9, 1958, an 8.3 earthquake along the Fairweather Fault triggered a debris avalanche. The avalanche created the largest known tsunami in history, which in turn stripped trees up to an elevation of 1720 feet along Lituya Bay.
