Empty river: Great Ouse and its' mudflats. - stock photo
A view of the River Great Ouse from the ferry jetty on a bleak mid-winter afternoon. The word “ouse” is thought to derive from the Celtic language and to mean “water”. The Great Ouse runs from Northamptonshire to drain into The Wash at Kings Lynn. Once a busy, important port town in the Medieval period it’s now largely devoid of ships and boats.
