European Hornet on Dark Background - stock photo

Isolated on a dark background, the European Hornet is often mistaken for the Asian Giant Hornet, or "Murder Hornet". Unlike its larger counterpart, the European Hornet has a distinct pattern on its thorax and, on average, is a little smaller. This one was found in Ontario, where they have been present since as early as 1840's, and was still alive at the time it was photographed in the studio.
