Bizarre plant TREE TUMBO or Welwitschia mirabilis native of Africa the only known specimen in India at Lucknow
LUCKNOW, INDIA, FEBRUARY 04: A unique plant called Welwitschia mirabilis also called Tree Tumbo is a bizarre plant that is a living fossil as it has outlived the dinosaurs and in the wild is found only in the Namib Desert in Africa, it is often called the worlds ugliest plants. This miraculous plant survives on very little moisture and can live to more than one thousand years. This unique gymnosperm in its life time bears only two leaves that can be several meters in length. In India the only known specimen is growing at the National Botanical Research Institute in Lucknow where it is protected in a green house in a specially large pot.
