PAJU, SOUTH KOREA - 2024/05/18: A train station sign depicting the location of Imjingak is seen against a fence at the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). The Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) spans 160 miles (258 km) and serves as a buffer between North and South Korea. It was created in 1953 through the Korean Armistice Agreement, which involved North Korea, China, and the United Nations Command. Although it's one of the most heavily guarded borders globally, the DMZ itself is free of weapons and open to tourists. Due to its significant geopolitical role and strict security protocols, visitors must present a passport to enter the DMZ. (Photo by Jasmine Leung/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images)
