The Sinamaica lagoon is a large extension of water located north
The Sinamaica lagoon is a large extension of water located northwest of Zulia state, Venezuela. The Sinamacia village inhabited by the ethnic Aûu Indians is one of the last floating villages on earth. They have been living in the area in houses above water known as palafitos, since pre-colonial times. They use the water body for fishing, transport, and other activities. Wooden canoes or small motor boats are used for transportation. Life in the lagoon is currently threatened by social issues such as severe poverty, water contamination and global warming.
