Stereograph of Senate Chamber
(Original Caption) The Senate Chamber is located in the north extension of the U.S. Capitol, and is 112 feet long by 86 wide, and 30 feet high. It is arranged to seat over 60 Senators. The Vice-President's seat is at the central north side of the Chamber, upon an elevation commanding a view of the whole floor, in front of which are desks of the reading and recording clerks. The gallery is at an elevation of about 15 feet, and extends the whole circumference of the Chamber, and is of a capacity to seat about 1,200 persons; ample space is provided for the reporters of the press. The Solar light is emitted through beautifully stained glass in the canopy, giving a soft and pleasant appearance to one of the most richly decorated chambers in America.
