Railway Tunnel at Royal Albert Docks
(Original Caption) The scenes inside the tunnel, the centre of which is now being lowered. Workmen are now lowering a railway tunnel under the Royal Albert Dock in connection with the dock widening scheme. The L.N.E.R. tunnel, which was constructed in 1877 and passes under the Royal Albert Docks between Custom House and Silvertown Stations, is being lowered to allow for deepening. The tunnel will now be reconstructed in the centre and will be made of steel sections like the tube railways. (Photo by © Hulton-Deutsch Collection/CORBIS/Corbis via Getty Images)
