More Clergy In England Return To Church For Prayer And Live-Streamed Services

LONDON, ENGLAND - MAY 17: The reverend Lucy Winkett, rector of St James's Piccadilly, delivers a service on Rogation Sunday via webcam to the church's congregation while the pews remain empty on May 17, 2020 in London, England. As part of the national lockdown to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, places of worship are temporarily closed, with the rules preventing religious leaders from delivering services from within the buildings. Having resorted to delivering services from the rectory, Reverend Winkett has now returned to the church when addressing her congregation. Technical issues remain a problem with the steep learning curve involved in live broadcasting leading to today's service having to lose all of the pre-recorded readings. However, the wish to address the people in need of support outweighs the desire for perfection in the broadcast, resulting in a slightly shorter broadcast than planned. The prime minister announced the general contours of a phased exit from the current lockdown, adopted nearly two months ago in an effort curb the spread of Covid-19. (Photo by Leon Neal/Getty Images)
