The Assassination Of President Paul Doumer
The assassination of President Paul Doumer, 1932. 'Reconstitution de l'abominable attentat perpetré le 6 Mai 1932 contre M. le President Paul Doumer'. 'Representation of the abominable attack perpetrated on 6 May 1932 against President Paul Doumer'. French president Paul Doumer (1857-1932) was shot by Russian émigré Paul Gorguloff at a book fair at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild in Paris. Author Claude Farrère wrestled with Gorguloff until police arrived. Doumer died in hospital the following day, the only French president to die of a gunshot wound. Gorguloff was found guilty after the jury rejected the idea that he was insane, and was executed in Paris by guillotine. Back cover of "L'Illustré du Petit Journal". [France, 15 May 1932].
