Thailand - Industry - Toyota Pickup Factory

Thailand has carved out a niche for itself as the pickup truck capital of Asia. Last year, Thailand manufactured over a million vehicles, mostly pickups making it the number 2 maker of these one ton trucks after the US. There is not enough to meet the demand for clients in Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Latin America. Toyota's factory in Samut Prakarn, a south eastern suburb of Bangkok is operating at full force manufacturing one pickup truck per minute, and next year another factory will open and double production to over half a million vehicles annually. Drawn to Thailand by government breaks, low costs and wages, where assembly line workers make about $200 a month, Thailand has entered the automotive industrial boom.
