Shanghai, CHINA: (FILES) A Taiwanese 747-400 owned by China Airlines is welcomed at Shanghai's Pudong airport 26 January 2003. The Lebanese authorities prevented Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian's plane from landing in Beirut 04 May 2006 after a strong protest from China, a government source said. Instead, his plane landed at Abu Dhabi airport, Taiwanese television stations reported, although this was not confirmed by officials in the United Arab Emirates. Beijing opposes any overseas visits by top government officials from Taiwan, which it regards as part of its territory awaiting reunification -- by force if necessary.
