UNITED KINGDOM : Studio portrait photograph by Maull and Polyblank of Sir John Hawkshaw (1811-1891), engineer of the Manchester and Leeds Railway, 1845, and consulting engineer in London from 1850. Henry Maull and Joseph Polyblank founded their photography studio in 1854, specialising in portraits of well-known individuals of the time. Much of their photographic work was used to produce engravings for the ?Illustrated London News?, and forty of their most celebrated portaits were published as ?Photographic Portraits of Living Celebrities?
