Server Ruben Avalos performs a balancing act with several plates of the free pancakes. The International House of Pancakes hosts a National Pancake Day at its restaurants across the country on Tuesday, Mar.1, 2011. By serving each patron a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes, IHOP hopes for a donation for the Shriners Hospitals in return. The company's goal this year is to raise $2.3 million. In the 2010 free pancake event, IHOP raised $2.1 million, and say the stack of pancakes created would have reached 31.5 miles high.
